Prince Charles Island

The 9,521 km² Prince Charles Island is the largest island to be found within the Foxe Basin and the second largest of the innumerable islands that lie off the coast of Baffin Island. The island is located within the shallow waters of the northern Foxe Basin, situated 50 km south from the central west coast of Baffin Island. In the channel separating it from Baffin Island are a number of smaller islands, the largest of which are Foley Island and Air Force Island.
The island measures 130 km in length (form north to south) and is up to 94 km in width. Like most of the islands in this region it is of exceedingly flat, post-glacial terrain with elevations averaging 20 m to 40 m above sea level, reaching a maximum of 73 m. The featureless interior consists of extensive areas of tundra marsh, loosely compacted sediments and many small lakes.
