Kavaratti

Kavaratti, Lakshadweep

A member of the Laccadive group of islands, Kavaratti (here shown in false-colour) is the main population centre and administrative centre for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The island is located 57 km southeast from Agatti and 24 km south-southeast from Pitti, it's closest neighbour.

At 4.22 km² in area, Kavaratti is the third largest of the Lakshadweep islands, measurimg 5 km in length (northeast to southwest) and up to 2 km in width in the north; the island tapers to the south where a width of 100 m is found. A shallow lagoon extends to the west.
