Maamakunudhoo

Maamakunudhoo

The small and highly elongate atoll of Maamakunudhoo (sometimes referred to as Malcolm Atoll) is located within the northern group of atolls, situated 17 km off the northwestern side of the much larger Thiladhunmathee-Miladhunmadulu atoll. Its position marks it as the westernmost of all the Maldivian atolls. Together with most of the northern section of the atoll of Thiladhunmathee-Miladhunmadulu it forms the South Thiladhunmathee Atoll (Haa Dhaalu Atoll) administrative unit.

The atoll, which for the most part consists of submerged and emergent reefs, measures 27 km in length (orientated south-southwest to north-northeast) with an average width of 4 km. There are four small islets on the reef, with the two largest being located on the northeastern rim.
