The two islands lie within a common shallow fringing reef system that connects them via a narrow neck of a few hundred meters across. The elongated North Island is the largest of the pair, measuring 12.5 km in length and 1.5 km width; the smaller South Island is tear-drop shaped, measuring 7 km in length and 4.5 km in width. The have a combined land area of 27 km². Both islands are extensively vegetated with coconut palm.
