Isla Alejandro Selkirk is the Second largest — at 85 km² in area — and most westerly member of the Juan Fernández Islands, being located 181 km west from Isla Robinson Crusoe. The island is the youngest member of the group at between 1 and 2 million years old. As a result of its young age its terrain is the least eroded of the islands, with Cerro de Los Inocentes rising to 1,329 m and with coastal cliffs of up to 1,000 m in height. The interior plateau is cut by sharp ridges and deep ravines.
