Ailinglaplap

Ailinglaplap, Marshall Islands

The large, irregularly-shaped atoll of Ailinglaplap (Ailinglapalap) is located in the western Ralik Chain of the Marshall Islands, 152 km northwest from Jaluit Atoll. Also just visible in the image, 15 km off the northern side (at left in the image) of Ailinglaplap is the small solitary island of Jabwot.

Around its lagoon of 750 km² is an almost continuous reef rim upon which are 52 reef islets with a combined land area of 14.7 km² — the most important islands being: Airuk, Beran, Bikor, Buoj, Enewe, Ennak, Jabwan, Jeh, Kattiej, Mejajok, Mejil, Tobomaro and Woja. Vegetation on this densely populated atoll is dominated by coconut plantations.
