Likiep, located around 55 km northwest of Wotje, forms a medium-sized atoll situated on the western side of the Ratak chain of atolls. The atoll forms a northwest to southeast orientated structure with a maximum length of 46 km. There are 64 islets (with an area of 10.26 km²) that are spread around a deep central lagoon of 424 km².
The atoll is home to the highest point above sea level to be found within the Marshall Islands, where an unnamed mound on the largest of its islets rises to 10 m in height.
