Located at the southern end of the Ratak chain, some 78 km south-southeast from Arno, lies the atoll of Mili — the second largest atoll of the Marshall Islands in terms of land area. Its 84 islets have a combined land area of 14.9 km².
The atoll is approximately rectangular in shape, with a maximum dimension of 52 km (from the southeastern corner to the northwestrern corner) and average north to south widths of 18-20 km. The lagoon of 760 km² is enclosed completely except on the northern side where the surrounding reef is broken by numerous passages.
Off the southeastern corner of Mili, and connected to it via a shallow submarine ridge, is the small satellite atoll of Knox.
