Réserve Marine Yves Merlet

Réserve Marine Yves Merlet

Off the far southwestern coast of Grande Terre the barrier reefs that line the central coast begin to move farther off shore creating an expansive area of relatively deep lagoon waters that are filled with a profusion of small reefs and cays. Shown here, off the southern tip of Grande Terre, are those reefs that are protected by the 229 km² strict Réserve Marine Yves Merlet. Also visible in the image at centre-bottom is the Île Améré.
